Fairy Legends and Traditions of West Cork
September Saturday 7th and Saturday 14th 3pm to 5pm
This hugely popular session was sold out last year, so we're running it again:
In 1825 Thomas Crofton Croker published his collection of Irish fairytales: Fairy Legends and Traditions of the South of Ireland. He included a number of eerie tales from local places such as Ballydehob and Hungry Hill. This talk will give you a rare opportunity to hear these tales together with an entertaining analysis of what they mean in historical and cultural terms. The presenters will be the popular West Cork College founders Dr. Bernie McCarthy and Dr. Emma Bidwell, and it will be held in the beautiful rooms of Killeena House Estate.
The Tempting Apple.
Apples in Art and Literature.
September Tuesday 10th 11am to 1pm.
In a light-hearted talk, Sonia Bidwell traces the history of the apple through the ages - in art, history, literature and cooking. This entertaining talk, punctuated with a wealth of illustrations and recipes is definitely one not to be missed. Examples of Sonia's latest art work will also be on view. Presented by textile artist and storyteller Sonia Bidwell.
